Jets RBs to be in ‘bigger shoes’ in 2016 than in 2015

The Jets will start 2016 with an improved offensive line, with running backs Muhammad Wilkerson and Bilal Powell expected to lead the way.

Both are considered to be one of the league’s top players, and their combination of speed and speed-to-weight ratio gives the Jets an advantage over other teams.

“The biggest thing is we have Bilal in the backfield,” general manager John Idzik said.

“He’s going to get the ball and he’s going see it as well.

Bilal will be a huge difference-maker for us.”

Powell’s emergence from a season-ending injury in 2015 also will help, as he can line up on both sides of the ball.

The Jets have used two offensive linemen on their offensive line since then, and both have struggled to stay healthy.

Idzik will have to decide how he wants to allocate his money on that front.

He also could opt to use the fifth-year option on a first-round pick and keep him on the roster, but Idzik would probably want to see how he feels about that as well, particularly if he’s able to return to full health and help the Jets.
